OLIVER MTUKUDZI Tsimba Itsoka (Heads Up)

The album title translates as "no foot, no footprint," referring to the positive and negative paths we all take in our life journeys. From the first song, you'll be tapping your foot to the bouncy beat and gentle saxophone notes sparsely sprinkled over the polyrhythmic djembe grooves. Smooth xylophone runs, complex conga solos and mellow lead guitar layers embellish Oliver Mtukudzi's melodies and diverse messages. His inspirational perspective is a refreshing approach to political music that doesn't sacrifice sonic satisfaction in its attempt to educate. The language barrier is broken by his skill.
This is 12 pure tracks of spiritual Zimbabwean soul-soothing Afrobeat, a delight to the ears and the heart.
