Carol Feineman Guitarist Enrique Coria, normally on the road with the David Grisman Quintet about eight months of every year, enjoys downtime with his wife, singer Yolanda Aranda.

That downtime is now. Yet he can't stray too far from a stage. If his wife of four years is with him, which will be the case Saturday in Grass Valley, that works fine for him.

The couple is currently touring the West Coast in support of their CD "Intimo," released in September 2002 on Acoustic Disc, Grisman's label.

The CD includes a variety of Latin American styles, including modern boleros, Mexican ranch songs and nueva canciónes. Coria is from Argentina, and Aranda is a first-generation Mexican-American.

Coria had so much fun working with Aranda on this CD that he is already thinking of recording a second CD of Latin American canciones.

"We want to do more pieces together," Coria said Monday, "with the next CD adding percussion to the Argentinean folk music."

Saturday's concert will feature songs from "Intimo" as well as Coria playing classical and traditional folk.

That's the best of both worlds for Coria. "The music I do with Yolanda is the music I grew up with, the music of my heart. I love the music," Coria explained. "The music with David Grisman is a beautiful challenge for me. It opened big doors for me with a music I never played before."

Before joining the David Grisman Quintet 10 years ago, Coria was not familiar with bluegrass. "

I remember a tour I made with a different band to the United States in the '70s and '80s. I loved to hear bluegrass and country,'' Coria reminisced. "But I never thought I would be playing it."  04/03/03 >> go there
