O's Place Jazz, CD Review >>
Puerto Plata (José Manuel Cobles) is a singer and guitarist in the true spirit of Dominican guitarists. When we listened to the first several tracks we were reminded of time on the beach in Mexico. And it could easily be the music of Mexico. But this is Dominican guitar music at its best featuring guitarists Edilio Paredes and Frank Mendaz, two of the finest. The music is festive and upbeat. The rhythms are similar but the words change keeping the program interesting. We liked the relaxed tempo of "Sabor de Engaño" which was a welcomed change of pace during the set. 04/15/08 >> go there
