Tight harmonies. Searingly hot vocals. Warm vibrations and inspirations. Such are the qualities of the South African vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. With over thirty years together and a career that includes multiple Grammy Awards and Nominations, and collaborations with Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, George Clinton and countless others, many of us are a lot more familiar with the group than we may think. Their upcoming release, Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu celebrates the life and spirit of the African Warrior who united the Zulu nation. The album bridges the rhythms and harmonies of South Africa with elements of Christian Gospel Music, in an offering that leaves one feeling that much more positive and empowered afterwards. While you may not find me bumping this on the ave., there's no doubt of the serious talent and cultural importance of the group, who once again prove that like Shaka Zulu, are a force to be reckoned with. Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu will be released on January 15, 2008.
