Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present the internationally celebrated South African a cappella ensemble Ladysmith Black Mambazo on February 24, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. The performance is presented by Chase.

Single tickets are available for $38 from the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts' Web site at www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org or the box office at (480) 994-ARTS (2787).

An international sensation, Ladysmith Black Mambazo fuses the intricate rhythms and harmonies of its native South African musical traditions with the sounds and sentiments of Christian gospel music. The group rocketed to fame in the mid-1980s, when Paul Simon incorporated its rich harmonies into his groundbreaking album Graceland, which helped to introduce world music to mainstream audiences.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo has since earned multiple Grammy Awards and nominations and, in addition to its work with Paul Simon, has recorded with artists around the world, including Stevie Wonder and Dolly Parton. The ensemble also has performed for South African President Nelson Mandela, the Queen of England and Pope John Paul II, among many other luminaries, and was featured at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo's latest album, Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu, is a tribute to the iconic South African warrior who united numerous regional tribes in the late 1800s and became the first king of the Zulu nation.
