Mix Magazine, CD Review >>
This San Francisco based Afrobeat band is led by two female singers who are well versed in various Nigerian and Ghanian vocal styles. Horn and percussion heavy, the group blows out a spirited funk-happy Afrobeat/Highlife sound. They recently undertook a pilgrimage to Africa opening for Fema Kuti (son of the late iconic Afrobeat godfather Fela) at his legendary Lagos club, The Shrine. This band doesn’t merely copy ‘70s African pop and rhythms; it creates its own by adding serious doses of jazz and Afro-Cuban music.
