In the last five years, globalFEST has become the U.S.'s leading showcasing event for artists performing a huge range of styles from around the world. Working alongside the annual performing arts conference, Association of Performing Arts Presenters (where major performing arts centers converge to seek talent), globalFEST has helped to create new touring opportunities for international musicians in the North American market. Over 50 groups/artists have participated in the first four years in the hybrid festival/showcase event. The festival has sold out each year with a crowd of over 1,400 including representatives of over 400 performing arts centers, festival and club curators, and artist managers, agents and labels rubbing shoulders with New York's homegrown global music audiences on three separate stages.
Twelve artists will perform over the course of the night with a wide variety of nations, ethnicities, styles, and tempos represented. globalFEST is organized by The Public Theater (NYC), World Music Institute (NYC), and World Music/CRASHarts (Boston). For the fifth year in a row, globalFEST is sponsored by The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, with additional support from the French Music Export Office, recognizing France's pre-eminent role as a hotbed for world music activity.
