The lineup for the 5th Annual Festival of Global Music (GlobalFest), to take place in New York on January 13th, 2008, has just been announced and for the first time in three years Capeverdean artists won’t be part of the festivities.

Scheduled to take the stage over the course of the night at the New York City’s Webster Hall are twelve world-renowned artists such as Chango Spasiuk (Argentina), Crooked Still (USA), Dulsori  (Korea), Fallou Dieng & DLC (Senegal), Lo Cor de la Plana (France), Little Cow  (Hungary), Nation Beat (Brazil/USA), Pistolera (Mexico), Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic/USA), Samarabalouf (France), Toumast  (Niger/France), and Vinicio Capossela (Italy).

Over 50 groups/artists have participated in the first four years in the hybrid festival/showcase event, including Cape Verde’s own Sara Tavares (2007) and Lura (2006).

Organized by the Public Theater (NYC), World Music Institute (NYC), and World Music/CRASHarts (Boston), GlobalFest has sold out each year with a crowd of over 1,400, including representatives of over 400 performing arts centers, festival and club curators, and artist managers, agents and labels.
