Formed in reaction to a repressive Soviet environment that clamped down on creative license and vibrant art, Russia's Auktyon has been whirling its way across international stages for more than two decades without suffering a let-up in energy. One reason: the manic enthusiasm of vocalist/shaman Oleg Garkusha. Live, the frontman's rooster struts, animated gestures, circular twirls, riotous outbursts and rubber-faced expressions convey the freewheeling joy of the ensemble's legendary shows. A similar theatrical surrealism animates "Girls Sing" (Geometry). Punctuated by snorting horns, funky organs, drugstore noisemakers and bizarre percussion, the octet's fusion of prog-rock, free jazz, ska and gypsy folk transcends language and genre barriers. Expert musicianship holds the innovative cartoon-soundtrack compositions together, but the primary concern isn't perfection; Auktyon is all about defying rules and having fun. Bring your dancing shoes. (Don't Miss It)

10 p.m. at Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. $20 (21+); 800-594-8499.
