THE WILDERS have a solid reputation for high energy live performances. That reputation grew after they old-timeyed-up this years SXSW convention with their brand of speed-hillbilly twang. All the talk had me pretty fired up for my chance to see them last night at IOTA CLUB AND CAFE in nearby Arlington VA.
The Wilders are WILD. They play like they are on fire, with the exception of a few slower numbers that let everyone catch their breath. They ran through a mix of new songs from their "Someone's Got To Pay" CD, older songs from earlier releases, and mixed in a few country and folk classics to spice things up. I especially loved their non-traditional take on the tried and true "If You Got The Money Honey...". The arrangement was a humming mix of old and new...a heady contradiction that pretty much sums up what you'll see if you check out The Wilders live.
