Province, CD Review >>
The idea of three Palestinian oud players making instrumental music might seem a tad esoteric at first blush but this is varied and compelling stuff. The oud is the ancient precursor of our modern guitar and it helps that Samir Joubran and younger brother Wissam and Adnan are descended from two generations of master oud makers. Samir began reinventing oud music after listening to guitar trio Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin and has developed a fascinating, hypnotic blend of eastern and western sounds augmented by percussionst Yousef Hbeisch.
