One of the most recognizable and esteemed bands of the Quebec traditional music world, Le Vent du Nord, is performing in Grand Rapids for one special night only this Friday.

Known for their enlivening concerts, Le Vent du Nord is characterized by authenticity, sensibility, humor, and a sprinkling of romanticism. Concerts are permeated with the spirit and roots of Quebec traditional music: Frenzied “podorythms,” fiddle and accordion, as well as refined orchestrations colored by a savage-sounding hurdy-gurdy, superb four-voice harmonies, ballads, call-and-answer songs and more. All songs are sung in the group’s native French.

Comprised of singers and multi-instrumentalists Nicolas Boulerice, Simon Beaudry, Olivier Demers and Rejean Brunet, the group performs music taken from traditional repertoire, as well as their own compositions. Always on the road and giving over 100 concerts each year, Le Vent du Nord has played throughout Canada, all over Europe, and in more than 30 American states.
Nominated as 2005 Artist of the Year by the North American Folk Alliance, Le Vent du Nord won an award in 2005 for Show of the Year for its United States radio concert series, “Bound For Glory.” It was also nominated for an OPUS Award in 2005, and its 2003 album, “Maudite Moisson!” won the 2004 Juno Award for Traditional Album of the Year.

The group has been seen in concert on CBC Television Atlantic, Espace Musique, and BBC Television. It also reached No. 1 in the charts of CIBL Montreal and hit No. 5 on the BBC Radio 3 charts. 02/23/08 >> go there
