The 28th annual Old Songs Festival of Traditional Music and Dance rolls into the Altamont Fairgrounds this weekend showcasing a wide variety of music from all over the globe. Among the international sounds that will be swirling around the fairgrounds, you'll hear the Irish fiddle and guitar duo Liz Carroll and John Doyle, the North Indian music of Galitcha, the Scottish quintet Malinky and Canadian fiddler-step dancer April Verch.

One of the highlights of the fest promises to be Le Vent du Nord, a young quartet of singers and multi-instrumentalists from Quebec who put a fresh spin on the multiple musical traditions of France, Ireland and Scotland, as well as Native North American influences. Although the band formed only five years ago when violinist Olivier Demers and pianist Nicolas Boulerice were students in music school, Le Vent du Nord has already released three albums of sparkling dance music, including their latest "Dans les Airs."

Or catch the "World Suite Jam" at 3 p.m. Saturday, when Le Vent du Nord, the April Verch Ensemble and Galitcha join forces for a multi-culti session under the direction of Andrew and Noah VanNordtrand, a young duo who are already Old Songs veterans.
