This Friday night we'll be joined by Chicha Libre at Drom for our monthly GlobeSonic party. This band is pretty insane, as the track to the left proves. It promises to be a very danceable time.

GlobeSonic parties have become legendary in the breadth of music and ease of transition they make between country, culture and continent. They recently held residencies at East Village hotspot Nublu and SOB’s, and have been showcasing artists at the prestigious WOMEX world music conference. They have staged events around the world with like-minded DJs and musicians, and are represented by IMN World, North America’s top world music booking agency. The agency also represents the likes of Caetano Veloso, Youssou N’Dour, Baaba Maal, Ali Farka Toure, Gilberto Gil, Herbie Hancock, Marisa Monte, Norah Jones and Ladysmith Black Mazambo. They are the first DJs ever represented by this prestigious organization. CHICHA is the name of a corn-based liquor favored by the Incas in pre-colombian days. Chicha is also the name of a South American music craze which started out in the late 70's in the Peruvian Amazon. Cumbias amazonicas, as they were first called, were loosely inspired by Colombian accordion-driven cumbias but soon incorporated the distinctive sounds of Andean melodies, some Cuban son, and the psychedelic sounds of surf guitars, farfisa organs and moog synthesizers. The group draws its personnel from barbes regulars Bebe Eiffel, One Ring Zero and Las Rubias del norte.
