If this music sounds old-fashioned, that's because it is. Chicha is a post-psychedelic pop music style popular in Peru in the 1970s, loosely based on Colombian cumbia. Chicha Libre is a band led by the French chicha champion Olivier Conan, and on this album delivers a loving recreation of the vintage sound, which is bouncy and tuneful, but in a strangely restrained (sometimes even slightly morose) way.
