Global Rhythm, CD Review >>

When the precocious young musicians who make up Feufollet started out in 1995, they didn't waste any time in finding their place on the Cajun scene. Three of the founding members--Chris Segura (fiddle) and brothers Chris Stafford (accordion, fiddle, vocals) and Michael Stafford (drums)--have stuck with it, and are now living up to the potential they initially showed on their 1999 debut, released when two of them weren't yet teenagers. Cow Island Hop is the group's fourth album, and finds them using unorthodox instrumentation (steel guitar, Farfisa organ and even Mellotron on one track) to give the songs a broad, modern flair. Mixed in with some familiar material are such gems as "Femme L'a Dit" and "Sur Le Bord De L'eau," both of which are fine vocal vehicles for Anna Laura Edmiston and Stafford. Feufollet seems determined to put its stamp on the Cajun genre, and this album is a solid step forward in achieving that goal. - Paul-Emile Comeau 10/01/08 >> go there
