Sing Out!, CD Review >>
Similar to the Cajun cultural renaissance of the late 1960s that produced musicians like Michael Doucet, Mark Savoy, and Zachary Richard, the last few years have seen the emergence of youthful bands like Lafayette, Louisiana's Feufollet that not only carry on the once threatened Francophone tradition but, confident of their roots, bring a zestful rock n' roll energy, subtle timbre changes and a kaleidoscopic range of musical influences to their dance party sound. The use of a Mellotron on a revival of Cajun fiddle legend Deniss McGee's haunting "Chere Bebe Creole" and the addition of saxophone, trumpet and tuba on a rousing redo of the traditional "Femme L'a Dit" are just a couple of examples of the sextet's collective creativity and playfully imaginative attitude.
Currently, Feufollet is composed of co-founders Chris Stafford (accordionist, fiddler, and vocalist) and fiddling wunderkind Chris Segura along with crystal-clear singer Anna Laura Edmiston, electric guitarrist Joshua Caffery, no nonsense drummer Michael Stafford, and newest member Phillippe Billeaudeaux on propulsive bass. Taylor Guarisco played bass on this album, but is no longer a band member. 10/01/08 >> go there
