Vancouver Sun, CD Review >>

Feufollet, whose name translates roughly as "crazy fire," is more than a talented band that's proud of its heritage. It formed in 1995 when accordionist/singer Chris Stafford, 8, hooked up with fiddler Chris Segura, 11. No longer a kid band, the group has won awards for its musicianship and innovation. The CD is a mix of originals and traditional tunes, skillfully integrating the old-fashioned Celtic sound of Brittany and Normandy. The lyrics are in French and there are reels and jigs. But Cow Island Hop also injects some cool new energy into the music with double fiddle tunes, cello, steel guitar and the melancholic sounds of the Mellotron. Fresh joie de vivre from the Cajun scene of Louisiana.
