Jayme Stone to perform at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City

The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College will present Jayme Stone’s Africa to Appalachia on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 8:00 PM in the Milliken Auditorium.

What happens when a bluegrass and jazz banjo player from Toronto sets out to explore the African roots of his instrument? The answer is Africa to Appalachia, the 2009 Juno award winner for World Music album of the year in Canada. Stone is now touring with master kora player (21 string harp) Yacouba Sissoko to offer this unique performance of bluegrass meets Africa. Join the Juno award winning Jayme Stone Quintet blending jazz, bluegrass, African rhythms and anything else that strikes their fancy.

To hear music from Africa to Appalachia go to http://www.myspace.com/jaymestone.

In addition to the public performance, Jayme Stone will be performing a concert during the day for schools in Milliken Auditorium. For more information contact Diana Bolander at 231-995-1029.

With the purchase of a ticket to this performance, concert goers are invited to visit the museum’s galleries one hour before the concert and attend a post concert reception with the performers.

The Dennos Museum Center concert season is supported in part by a grant from the Osterlin Performance Endowment, and the Robert T. Hughes Family Trust. WNMC 90.7 fm and TV 29&8 provide media support. The Jayme Stone concert is supported in part by the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce as part of the Dennos Museum Center’s Global Diversity Series.
