Awhile back, banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck traveled to Africa to explore the origins of his chosen instrument. Meanwhile, up in Canada, fellow banjoist Jayme Stone was up to very much the same thing, journeying through Mali in search of the roots of banjo. Must be the zeitgeist. The result of his own voyage is the collaboration with kora player Mansa Sissoko, Africa to Appalachia. Another Sissoka, Yacouba, subs in for Mansa on this tour with Stone and his band, which promises a spirited exchange of musical ideas. Tonight's concert continues Sound Culture's monthlong Nomadic World Music Festival.
