On this album, two of Gaeldom's finest singers, Julie Fowlis from Scotland and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh from Ireland, come together with the talented multi-instrumentalists Eamon Doorly and Ross Martin to deliver argueably the best Gaelic CD of this year. This CD, a tribute to the links between Gaelic Ireland and Scotland, is a mix of soothing ballads, where Julie and Muireann get to show why they're considered to be top of the class among Gaelic singers, lovely instrumental pieces, among them several pieces where Julie skillfully plays the bagpipes, as well as a spledid mix of puirt-a-beul and sean-nós.

The opening piece, a medley of three puirt-a-beul songs, sets the standards for this album, and is, together with the ballad "A Riogain Uasail", probably the best songs on this CD. On a side note, the latter song will sound strangely familiar to most lovers of Gaelic music, mainly because it has borrowed the music from the Irish song "Mo Ghíle Mear", made famous by, among others, Sting and the Chieftains.

Other high-lights on this CD include one of the best renditions of the Scottish song "Alasdair Mhic Cholls Ghasda" I've ever heard, the instrumental piece "Gol na mBan San Ar" as well as several puirt-a-beuls, the typical style of singing for which we have all come to know and love Julie. Without doubt, this album is a must for anyone interested in Celtic, or more specifically Gaelic music, and will without doubt earn the musicians several awards for years to come.

All in all, a true masterpiece, a treasure chest including some of Gaeldom's finest musical legacies to the world. 11/06/08 >> go there
