Music Monday: Galeet Dardashti
Galeet Dardashti’s new album, The Naming, while on the bible-thumping side is certainly an interesting cultural treat for the ears. Both singer and composer, Dardashti uses her album to tell the stories of prominent women in the Bible. The classical Persian and Middle-Eastern Jewish sound takes the listener back to the times the songs speak of.
Dardashti pulls from the stories of the few strong and powerful women, such as the Persian Queen Vashti, who was killed after she refused to dance in the nude in front of her husband’s buddies (in the song “Vashti”) and the witch of Endora, who foretold Saul’s death (in “Endora”).
The Naming will be released on September 14 and is a good listen for those even uninterested in its religious roots. Check out Dardashti’s website for more information.
