Buenos Aires-born singer/guitarist Federico Aubele has that certain thing. That je-ne-sais-quoi which makes any girl swoon. The Barcelona resident by way of Argentina likes to mix it up a bit. After two successful albums, Gran Hotel Buenos Aires and Panamericana, Aubele returns with his third album, Amatoria, a composition of old-school tango, bolero inspired by 1940s Mexican boleros and a touch of reggae which is all about that “vast and huge theme, love.”

Aubele infuses his distinctive Spanish guitar sound with sultry (and I mean suuuultry) vocals and subtle electronic beats to create a unique collage of intimate love songs. He confesses that his inspiration was in part from his Buenos Aires childhood, when his mother would constantly play records of tango, boleros, and bossa nova.

Standout songs are Hermosa which could literally give you goosebumps, “a straight-forward Mexican-style bolero, but with an Argentinean accent. The lyrics are a very straightforward love poem about a very intimate moment,” says Aubele and Siempre Nuevo which has distinct sounds of reggae. Suena mi guetarra adds a bit of Mediterranean flair with gypsy sounds.

Joining him on Saturday’s performance at the 9:30 club is singer and guitarist DePedro, whose first solo album, is the culmination of years of writing and playing songs for others, including Amparanoia, Vacazul, Los Coronas and Calexico. The album is, however, his most personal work, with songs written from his own experiences, his own thoughts and feelings, the music he's looked to - from Afrobeat to flamenco to prog to pop. The inspirations are simple, the everyday things we all experience that unite and define us as human: regret, memory, love, fear, loss, and happiness.
