Hour, CD Review >>
The musical connection between West Africa and the American blues has been obvious ever since we first heard Malian guitarist Ali Farka Touré imitating John Lee Hooker - or was it the other way around? Now we have British guitarist and producer Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara, a Gambian griot (storyteller) and master player of the one-string ritti fiddle, teaming up for a second collaboration, having garnered accolades for their 2007 Soul Science. On their sophomore outing, the two once again effortlessly fuse blues-based rock with traditional African music. This is nicely highlighted on Tonio yima, with its smooth guitar riffs intermingling with intricate African rhythms. This is definitely a keeper. 07/02/09 >> go there
