The Black Seeds / The Ordinary Allstars @ HMV Picture House, 29 Sep

Posted by Claire McBain, Mon 21 Sep 2009
Ready to top last year's Edinburgh visit, 8-piece musical brotherhood The Black Seeds are hitting the mighty Picture House, alongside local support that's unexpected, fresh and exciting.

Hailed as one of the best live reggae bands on the planet, Kiwi legends The Black Seeds are heading to the capital on the back of their latest album, Solid Ground.
An institution in their part of the world, a big success down under and showered with praise worldwide, their reputation has been carved through two double-platinum selling albums and a masterful live show.

Led by the vocals of Barnaby Weir and Daneil Weetman, The Black Seeds create a danceable fusion of dub, funk, afro-beat and soul, mixed with vintage reggae.
Based on last autumn's immortal show at the Liquid Room, there'll be high expectations for the Kiwis, but make sure you're there in time to see the support because there's something equally as intriguing brewing on your doorstep.
Locally sourced hip hop doesn't sound like the most likely thing you'll hear in Edinburgh on a Tuesday night, but it's happening. And it's going to be good.
Their first gig of this size, local guys The Ordinary Allstars come with their own fresh, infectious brand of hip hop, a combination of their live band, feel-good songs and wide range of musical influences.

A creation of mates, vocalist MC Hasta and drummer Fuzz recruited B Burg and Benofficial for guitar and bass and Johnny Drama for additional live vocals, taking shape as a core five-piece band with a multi-track player with their recorded brass. And where possible, the crew expands, joined by a three-piece brass section.
Whatever format, the old-school group with new-school ideas promise a dynamic show, an ideal starter before The Black Seeds take the stage for the much-anticipated main event.
