CD Hotlist, CD Review >>
This New Zealand reggae band deals in a sound that is surprisingly traditional, rooted in pre-dancehall styles that owes quite a bit to 1970s funk and soul (and occasionally to 1960s ska). You can hear the Black Seeds' 15 years of gigging in the tightness and richness of their sound, and especially in the sharp precision of their horn section. Recommended to all world music collections. (RA) 10/01/09 >> go there
