Otherworldly Saharan guitar ensemble Tinariwen was formed during the late '70s by leader Ibrahim Ag Alhabib. Made up of members from the Touareg -- a much repressed tribal people exiled from their native Mali -- Tinariwen developed an expansive guitar sound over years spent in desert isolation. An amalgam of North African, Western blues and psychedelic rock influences converge organically to forge the trademark Tinariwen sound.Rising in global popularity over the past decade, the groups has refined it's hypnotic groove over several albums that marked their first recordings widely available in the West.
