Go ahead and leave the passport at home tonight — for the seventh year, globalFEST brings the world to NYC. Bands from Burkina Faso, Guadalupe, Senegal, Argentina, Romania, and beyond hit Webster Hall tonight. West African Alif Naaba sings acoustic songs in his native tongue in such an expressive way that transcends language barriers, contrasting a persisting melancholy with a hopeful energy. Parisian electronic act Caravan Palace exude a Gogol Bordello level of enthusiasm and sound like Django Reinhardt remixed by Girl Talk with a little bit of frenzied scat thrown into the mix. Other highlights include Transylvanian blues-rockers Nightlosers and African roots reggae export Meta and the Cornerstones. 01/05/10 >> go there
