is a long time-honored tradition in New Orlean's based Cajun Music. Cedric Watson represents the next generation of carrying on this very unique musical genre and style.
Cedric actually grew up in San Felipe, Texas exposed to a variety of music ranging from blues to country and zydeco. He later moved to Lafayette, LA and jumped into the Creole music community.
His style builds on the traditional "La-La French" music with accordion, fiddle and guitar. Cedric now performs with his own band, Bijoux Creole, playing a mix of old school zydeco styles, original material and Creole Traditionals. His playing has been compared to the old Creole fiddling styles of Canray Fontenot and Bebe Carrier. In
describing his Cedric Watson CD, Michael Doucet was quoted: "These songs may well be early brushstrokes of a life's worth of possibilities, not only for himself, but also for the identity and survival of a culture.
Cedric's passion for this very special music is helping to assure that this long Creole tradition will live on.
If you are looking for a couple of representative tracks from Cedric, GrokMusic reommends Track 1 the title track from Goin' Down to Louisiana and "Cochran de Lait", Track 1 from the Grammy nominated Cedric Watson CD.
