Oct. 25: Real Vocal String Quartet
Bay Area string quartet to perform in Gore Recital Hall

3:36 p.m., Oct. 10, 2011--The Real Vocal String Quartet, formed in 2003 by premier San Francisco violinist and composer Irene Sazer, will perform at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Gore Recital Hall of the Roselle Center for the Arts at the University of Delaware.

The concert will feature Sazer, violin and voice; Alisa Rose, violin and voice; Dina Maccabee, viola and voice; Jessica Ivry, cello and voice; and UD faculty artist Harvey Price, percussion.

Since its founding, the quartet has performed to sold-out audiences around the Bay Area. The group was thrilled with last year’s release of their self-titled first studio album.

Influences range from traditional American string band music to contemporary improvisation, from Brazilian folk rhythms to hypnotic meditations from West Africa. Through it all, the threads of spine-tingling vocal and instrumental harmony and fearless, inspired improvisation weave a web of original acoustic music played with a deep groove.

The group has recently been mentioned in The New York Times, UK Guardian and Paste for their appearance on Feist's new release Metals.

Real Vocal String Quartet’s Oct. 25 appearance at UD features the group’s contemporary interpretations of traditional Cajun tunes, Regina Spektor’s Machine, La La Love You by The Pixies, tributes to West African musicians and a special live improvisational section.

Tickets are for $12 adults, $8 for senior adults and $3 for students.  Advance tickets are available by calling 302-831-2204 or visiting the REP box office in the Roselle Center for the Arts. At-the-door tickets, if available, are cash or check only.
