Elikeh – Adje! Adje!

5 out of 5 stars

And you thought the biggest thing based in Washington DC with an African connection was a certain Mr Obama? Wrong. Elikeh are an ensemble of multi-instrumentalists with some pretty astounding credentials to their name who look set to put DC on the musical map. Togo’s own Massamo Dogo leads vocals and Nigerian master drummer Tosin Aribisala (Femi Kuti, Talib Kweli) alongside Papa Joe Ngwa (Grammy Nominee Cheick Hamala Diabate) handle percussion duties with relative ease. Not forgetting an astounding array of talent that makes up a remarkable horn and guitar section. Adje! Adje! is a finely constructed presentation of fresh afro pop that blends elements of jazz, afrofunk, traditional drumming and rock to seriously exhilarating effect. Try hard to imagine if Fela Kuti and Bob Marley fused their magic together for an 11 track LP and you come extremely close to the infectious sound that is Elikeh.

Here’s a chance for you to WIN a copy of the Adje! Adje! album in a super exclusive competition! Simply send us your name and address by email to: israel.hobson@afriqantimes.com with Adje as the subject. Good luck!
