Metro Minute at Ashkenaz Festival

The klezmer revival is back! And it’s not just for the elderly and hipsters with those plastic glasses you want to snap between your thumb and forefinger. Old world Jewish culture with a decidedly modern twist is on full display at this weekend’s Ashkenaz Festival, featuring music, theatre, dance, visual arts, literature and film from around the world. Harbourfront Centre hosts the bulk of the events, with additional venues listed on the festival’s website at www.ashkenazfestival.com. Your best bet is New York-based electro, ragga, rock, hip-hop visionaries Balkan Beat Box. Their free, high-octane live act starts Sunday at 9:30 p.m. on the Sirius Stage.
