Dave Holland/ Pepe Habichuela: Hands

Pepe Habichuela is one of the greatest flamenco guitarists & Dave Holland has few peers among jazz double bassists. Hands offers much more depth, subtlety & true flamenco spirit than any flashy 'jazz-flamenco-fusion' effort.

US-resident Englishman Dave was born in 1946 in Wolverhampton. His musical journey began as a little boy who taught himself to play the ukulele. Pepe was born in 1944 in Granada. He began to play guitar as a little boy, in the caves above his city. Within their different genres both are prodigies; at a remarkably young age each was widely recognised as one of his instrument's greatest, most sensitive players.

They first met in 2006 & liked each other immediately. They describe their collaboration as 'very natural and deeply respectful.' By March 2009 they were ready to make their first album together. Pepe says 'I can now say that we are two Gypsies', adding, as he chuckles, 'or better yet, he is a Gypsy and I am almost an Englishman.'
