K'naan to perform at free TIFF block party

K'naan has been announced as a surprise performer at the free TIFF block party tomorrow. The Somali born Toronto resident whose Waving Flag was the official song of the 2010 World Cup joins an already stellar line-up of bands including Polaris prize nominees Karkwa, The Sadies and Radio Radio as well as LA based funk/rock band 100 Monkeys. The music starts at 11:05am with K'Naan scheduled to take the stage at 3pm.

Incidentally, I spotted K'naan last night at the launch party for George Strombo's re-branded The Hour show - now called George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. Mini burgers, jumbo shrimp and mini falafels were on the menu (as well as an open bar), all eagerly devoured by a hungry crowd that included Steve Nash, David Suzuki, Lennox Lewis, Ron Maclean, Sloan, CBC personalities Matt Galloway and Garvia Bailey, Sonny Weems and a bunch of other Raptors.
