Karkwa win Polaris Prize

The Polaris Prize is the Canadian equivalent of Britain’s Mercury Music Prize, an award given for the best Canadian album of the past year. Last night Karkwa were announced as winners, beating off better known acts like Broken Social Scene and Tegan and Sara. They underplayed the victory when collecting the award, saying "That's weird, that's very strange… We're holding a cheque for $20,000 and we don't understand anything." Their album was called ‘Les Chemins De Verre’, and was their fourth effort; not bad for a record that reportedly took three weeks to make.
