Music News Week

New music news this week kicks off with Fujiya & Miyagi as they have announced their fourth album Ventriloquizzing which will land very early in 2011 (that's January 17th for the pedants out there) through Full Time Hobby. They're playing a few shows around Europe if you're interested. Check out the website for dates. Speaking of Full Time Hobby, School of Seven Bells have got a new single coming out and a run of dates around Europe. You can download the new single at the bottom of this article.

Much like John Farnham, The Lucksmiths are going back on their word that they have stopped their musical antics. This is a positive thing in our opinion because The Lucksmiths have offered a couple of songs to be released in their own right as a single + b-side. The 'Get-to-bed Birds' single will be packaged up with 'The World of Professional Golf 1994' as a b-side on a nice limited edition, black vinyl 7"through California's Matinée Recordings. It'll be out on the 29th October but you can pre-release it here.

BSS's Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin (of last year's Happiness Project) are capitalising on their success by re-releasing their earlier incarnation as the instrumental project K.C. Accidental. Their two originally self-released EP's Captured Anthems For An Empty Bathtub and Anthems For The Could’ve Bin Pills will be packaged up in CD or vinyl format in October.

There is a new Low album on the way, as the band have told fans that they are halfway through the songs that they are working on in Duluth. The album should see a release in 2011 through Sub Pop. And Kes are back with a new album Black Brown Green Grey White, seeing main man Karl Scullin backed by Lehmann B Smith and Julian Patterson. It's very close to a release through the very important Melbourne based label Mistletone.

We brought you news last week about Augie March front-man Glenn Richards beefing up his solo efforts, and confirmation of that came through the week with the announcement of his solo album Glimjack. It's going to be released on the 4th November and he'll be playing a couple of launch shows in November. Little Red's second album Midnight Remember hit the Australian charts in the top-5 last week, which is pretty impressive for a relatively small Melbourne band.

If you look at photos of Justin Townes Earle and Amy Winehouse, do you get confused? Understandably. Adding to the confusion this week is the news that JTE has checked himself into rehab (no, no no...sorry), effectively canceling his current tour dates and either delivering a shot in the arm or a shot in the foot for his new album Harlem River Blues. Get better soon Juzzy.

Here's a brighter story to fill your iPod. Ernest Ellis has literally been sitting in a sea of songs that he wrote and recorded and doesn't know what to do with them. Luckily the man has seen some sense and has decided to clean himself up and give the music away for free. The catch? Just sign up to his newsletter and you'll get a song on the 23rd of each month - why 23? We better ask Ernie. Here's the link to sign up.

Turning to some award news and the Polaris prize, which celebrates Canadian music was announced last week and from a stellar field that included the likes of Broken Social Scene, Caribou, The Besnard Lakes and Tegan and Sarah, Montreal band Karkwa got the nod for their fourth album Les Chemins de Verre (or for those non-frenchies amongst us "The Glass Paths"). The band get a cool $20,000, and this is how the band responded: "On suit le gala depuis son début, et c'est le prix qui nous touche le plus.” Interesting. Past winners of the Polaris Prize include Fucked Up, Caribou and Patrick Watson.
