This time of year is always a challenge. The days are noticeably longer, but Mother Nature teases us with almost-warm temps one day before freezing us again the next. Almost everyone longs to get away, even for a moment.

There is salvation, in the form of fantastic music from Irish-American fiddler Eileen Ivers and her group, Immigrant Soul, who will perform in a benefit concert, for the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra’s programs, at the Performing Arts Center of Barnstable High School on Feb. 26.

World music aficionados will deeply appreciate the way Ivers and Immigrant Soul present a collection of songs that have the ability to transport listeners to myriad locations across the globe simply through the playing of music.

At the seemingly endless finale of a rather long winter, everyone could use some uplifting soul travel via fabulous music, and Ivers delivers just that.

With songs that are a masterful compilation of styles alternating between toe-tapping fun and dreamy relaxation, this concert will offer the perfect mix for this transformational time of year.

Ivers and her sextet of musical pals, who can be heard on their self-titled 2003 album, are capable of getting the party started with upbeat, up-tempo tunes such as “Darlin’ Corey” and “Paddy” in Zululand, songs that combine Irish, Appalachian, African and other musical themes.

As much as Ivers and Soul can rock you out, they can also soothe, as evidenced in songs such as “Reconciliation” and “Parting of Friends.”

For a much-needed lift, this is one trip you’ll want a ticket for.
