Luther College alumna Caroline Worra will perform Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus.
Tickets for the performance are on sale at the Luther College Box Office, (563) 387-1357, open 9-10:30 a.m. and 11a.m.-3 p.m. on weekdays with extended hours on Thursdays until 7 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased online at http://boxoffice.luther.edu. Tickets are $20, $18 for seniors age 65 and over and $15 for youth ages 4-18.
Worra's appearance is part of Luther's 2011-12 Center Stage Series of professional performing arts events and recognizes Luther's long-standing opera tradition. She will be accompanied on piano by Jennifer Peterson, founder and director of operamission.
Worra has sung more than 50 different operatic roles including 15 international and American premieres and several demo recordings.
Worra has been praised for her beautiful voice, charismatic stage presence and stylistic mastery. She was internationally acclaimed for her performances of Jenny in "The Mines of Sulphur" and the title role for "The Greater Good; Passion of Boule de Suif."
Worra has worked with more than 20 opera companies including The Metropolitan Opera, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dallas Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, and six seasons at both Glimmerglass Opera and New York City Opera.
She gave a debut recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall and performed on the main stage of Carnegie Hall as the soprano soloist in Haydn's "Lord Nelson Mass" and "Carmina Burana."
Worra graduated from Luther in 1991. She holds the doctoral degree in vocal performance from Indiana University.
Worra is a recipient of the Shoshana Foundation's Richard F. Gold Career Grant.
Upcoming performances in the 2011-12 Center Stage Series include Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul on Feb. 10 and Spirit of Uganda on Feb. 21.
