Hugh Masekela

Active in the jazz community for more than 50 years, Hugh Masekela is one of the most respected and influential fusion musicians in the world. “Grazing In The Grass,” his 1968 instrumental, rose quickly to absolute classic status and has been covered by artists from Stevie Wonder to Raven-Symoné. On his own part, Masakela has collaborated with stars like Fela Kuti, Paul Simon, and Herb Alpert, as well as his ex-wife, South African singer Miriam Makeba, and son Sal Masekela, an ESPN and E! personality. The septagenarian’s anti-apartheid activism was featured in a 2002 documentary, Amandla! A Revolution In Four Part Harmony. Masekela might be getting up there in years, but he tours more than most musicians who are half his age, and he continues to release albums and collaborate with musicians worldwide.
