The globalFEST 2011 Lineup, Featuring The Creole Choir of Cuba, Red Baraat, And The Pedro Martinez Project, Has Been Announced

By Rob Harvilla, Wed., Oct. 27 2010 @ 8:00AM

Good news: globalFest 2011 met their $10,000 Kickstarter goal, so the show (reliably the years wildest, most ambitious one-night buffet of international talent) will go on January 9 at Webster Hall. And here's the lineup:

globalFEST 2011 lineup

Chamber Music: Ballaké Sissoko & Vincent Segal (U.S. debut)
Creole Choir of Cuba
Diblo Dibala
Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole (U.S. mainland debut)
La-33
Mustafa Özarslan (U.S. debut)
Novalima
Orquestra Contemporânea de Olinda
Pedro Martinez Project
RAM
Red Baraat
Rhythms of Rajastan
Yoro Ndiaye (U.S. debut)

Note that your probably not being familiar with most of these names is sort of the point. A few do jump out, though: YIMBY veterans Red Baraat do horn-addled Bhangra-via-New-Orleans party fusion; La-33 are a Colombian salsa band who allegedly do a mean "Roxanne"; the Pedro Martinez Project is not that Pedro Martinez, but I'm sure it's just delightful. Something here is guaranteed to kick you in the head, in a good way, of course.
