5 Things
by Ross Catrow March 17, 2011

1. Kodo Drummers of Japan
What’s not to like: strong men in loin cloths banging on drums for a couple hours! rich Japanese History! and, a chance to donate to the Red Cross to help the relief efforts in Japan! Kodo’s got it all.

Note: this show is tonight, late notice I know. But it’s really so fantastic that I can’t not mention it.

Thursday, March 17th • 7:30pm
The Landmark Theatre
Starting at $38 • Buy tickets online

2. Black Swan at the Byrd
Black Swan!! I can remember — fondly, like it was yesterday — patiently waiting for the Richmond premier of this movie. And now, if you’ve failed as a human and have yet to see Black Swan in a theatre, you can experience it for just two bucks. Ballet!

Starting Friday, March 18th • 9.30pm
The Byrd Theatre
$2

3. Save My Byrd Tail
Hey, while I’ve got you thinking about the Byrd, how about this: a fundraiser that’ll really save your ass. You’re not really from Richmond unless you’ve complained about how uncomfortable the seats at the Byrd are. Well, time to put your money where your…well put it somewhere. The proceeds of this event will go to the Byrd Theatre Foundation’s seat replacement campaign. Hooray!

Friday, March 18th • 5:30pm
The Byrd Theatre
$25

4. In Your Facebook
Well this is easily the most terrifying thing we’ve ever picked for a 5 Things. The Richmond Comedy Coalition will pick a (stupid? foolish?) helpful volunteer from the crowd, go through their Facebook, and use what they find as inspiration for improve. TERRIFYING.

Note, this is also tonight. Sahhhry!

Thursday, March 17th • 8.30pm (doors 8pm)
Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall Street)
$7, $5 w/ a valid student ID

5. A MILLION Blooms
Take advantage of the burgeoning spring and get the heck outside! Take a stroll through Lewis Ginter’s A MILLION BLOOMS. That’s a lot of blooms. March is a great time to catch the cherry blossoms and daffodils. Also, while you’re there check out the Orchids display.

Daily from 9am – 5pm
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (1800 Lakeside Avenue)
$10, children under three and members are free 03/17/11 >> go there
