As Virginians join the world in concern and support over the plight of Japanese earthquake and tsunami victims, a cultural performance tonight will provide an opportunity to help those in need.

Japan's famed Kodo drummers appear tonight at Richmond's Landmark Theater in a performance produced by the University of Richmond's Modlin Center for the Arts. The American Red Cross says it will accept Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami relief donations in the lobby before and after the 7:30 p.m. performance.

The Japanese troupe members are practitioners of taiko drumming, and will take the stage in traditional attire to play instruments ranging from a hand-held drum to a half-ton o-daiko, carved from a single tree trunk. The drummers have played the world over and sold out when they played here in 2007.

The performance is sponsored in part by the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation. 03/17/11 >> go there
