The holidays are over but not the music
January 7th, 2011

In 2011 we not only will provide information about weekend concerts and events in New England but add selections occurring during mid-week as well.  Here is the first edition with that format.

Friday, 1/7

Vincent Segal is a cellist from France.  Ballake Sissoko is from the West African country of Mali and plays a native stringed instrument called the kora.  Together they provide chamber music that is uniquely introspective.  You may catch them at 8PM in the First Church near Cambridge’s Harvard Square.

Le Vent du Nord is a folk group from the Canadian province of Quebec.  They have an 8PM start at One Longfellow Square up in Portland.

Blues tinged folk music is in store for those who catch Greg Brown at Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT beginning at 8PM.

They’ll be plenty of foot-stomping at the Katharine Hepburn Theater in Old Saybrook, CT this weekend.  The bluegrass band NewFound Road is in on Friday and Jeffrey Brousard & the Creole Cowboys will follow the next night with some spirited zydeco.  Both shows start at 8PM.

Classical folk artist Vienna Teng also has two 8PM appearances.  The first is at the Tupelo Music Hall in White River Jct., Vermont while on Saturday she will perform at the Center for the Arts in Natick, MA.

Jane Monheit performs four times at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston.  Show times are at 8PM and 10PM both nights.

Blues/rock legend Johnny Winter appears in the Wolf Den at the Mohegan Sun Casino on Friday at 8PM.  At the same time and same place on Saturday, Little Anthony & The Imperials returns after many previous appearances over the years.
