Miami’s Heineken TransAtlantic Festival Brings Fresh Music
Posted on 12. Apr, 2011 by Hector Aviles in Blog

This is not your “same-o, same-o” music festival. The Miami HeinekenTrans-Atlantic Festival brings artists that are creating music inunconventional ways. This is what makes this Latin music festival such an attraction, now in its 9th edition.

The Heineken Trans-Atlantic Festival kicks-off April 14thwith Colombian group Bomba Estereo, who has been making headlines as one of themost innovative Latin music groups around. They blend Colombian music rhythms withfunk and electronica to provide an interesting musical experience. Along with BombaEstereo the group Tango Conspiracy will be performing the same day.

Then on April 29th this music festival brings youngBrazilian sensation CéU, who caused a lot of talk with the debut auto-namedalbum “CéU”, and then followed it with the CD “Vagarosa”.

Following CéU on April 30th will be theBrooklyn-based group Antibalas, who comes from performing in the BroadwayTony-nominated musical FELA. This group mixes Afrobeat with Caribbean, jazz, funk, and West African music.

Just reading the bio’s of these groups made me want to golisten to some of these groups that I hadn’t heard. I had listened to music byCeU and a couple of songs by Bomba Estereo. Now I’m intrigue by more of their work and the work of the other groupshere.

This festival provides a great example of the type of musicthat keeps music alive. The mix of our Latin music traditional rhythms withother musical avenues is keeping innovation alive in music and providing a newavenue for the young generations to appreciate our Latin music. I hope that thepublic listening to these artists understands the roots of their music.

If I was in the south Florida area I would not miss this event. You can find more information, including the complete schedule line-up,videos, information about the festival, and buy tickets at the festival’s site www.TransAtlanticFestival.com. 04/12/11 >> go there
