Saw Doctors prove entertaining at Penn's Peak with unique style

The Saw Doctors, which are labeled an Irish rock band, had more pop in their style during their show at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, Saturday..

The result was an enjoyable evening for a decent crowd - including a loyal following who sang along with many of the lyrics.

Audience members danced to some of the tunes, responded to the dialogue, and showed appreciation for the talent shown by the quintet from Tuam, County Galway.

The stop at Penn's Peak was one of the first in a rare U.S. tour which is taking the band coast-to-coast before returning to Europe next month. Tomorrow night the Saw Doctors play in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

On St. Patrick's Day, the band will be in Philadelphia.

Of course the most receptive number was their first number one, "I Useta Lover," which had been at the top of the charts in Ireland for nine consecutive weeks in 1990, and still holds the record for the country's all-time biggest-selling single.

Other hits which they sang include "About You Now," "Hay Wrap," "Small Bit of Love," and "N17."

The purpose of the tour is to promote the newest LP by the Saw Doctors, "The Further Adventures of The Saw Doctors."

Behind the band on the Penn's Peak stage was a large backdrop depicting the five members of Saw Doctors in Superman costumes, but with SD for Saw Doctors on the chest emblem. At the top of the banner proclaimed "The Furth Adventures of The Saw Doctors."

Opening for the Saw Doctors was the band AM Taxi.

There are two concerts scheduled for this weekend at Penn's Peak.

On Friday night, ARRIVAL – The Music of ABBA, is bringing its Swedish sound to Penn's Peak. Tickets are $28 and $23, with showtime at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot performs the music of Billy Joel and more. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $17 in advance and $22 the day of the show.
