It's no surprise that there are plenty of Irish acts performing in the area this week, leading up to St. Patrick's Day on Thursday.

You can't get more traditional Irish than veteran folk group The Chieftains, the six-time Grammy winners who are approaching their 50th year as a band. They perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday March 15 at the McCarter Theater at 91 University Place in Princeton. Tickets: $49 to $60. Information: 609-258-2787; www.mccarter.org.

On Thursday, the Saw Doctors bring their energetic barroom rock to the Theatre of the Living Arts at 334 South St. in Philadelphia. The band, whose early '90s hit "I Useta Love Her" became the top-selling single in Ireland history, released its seventh studio album, "The Further Adventures of the Saw Doctors," late last year. Show time: 8 p.m. Tickets: $30. Information: 215-922-1011; www.livenation.com.

Other Irish-themed acts in the area this week include Celtic Crossroads at 8 p.m. Wednesday ($33 and $45) and Bill Monaghan and Celtic Pride at 8 p.m. Thursday ($15), both at the Sellersville Theater at Main Street and West Temple Avenue in Sellersville (215-257-5808; www.st94.com); Don McCloskey's St. Paddy's Day Party at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Tin Angel at 20 S. Second St. in Philadelphia ($10; 215-928-0978; www.tinangel.com); and Philly-born Celtic group Solas at 8 p.m. Thursday at World Café Live at 3025 Walnut St. in Philadelphia ($30 and $42, 215-222-1400; www.worldcafelive.com).

Also, Puck at 1 Printer's Alley in Doylestown celebrates its grand re-opening (after a two-and-a-half-month renovation to add solar panels to its roof) with a free St. Patrick's Day concert from Kelly Stratton and the Punch Drunk Boys at 7 p.m. Thursday. Information: 215-348-9000; www.pucklive.com.

The Irish-themed musical entertainment doesn't end on St. Patrick's Day. The international hit Celtic Woman comes to the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton 7 p.m. on Saturday March 19. Tickets, $65 and $40, are available here or by calling 800-298-4200.

Also, Triumph Brewing Company of New Hope hosts its 3rd Annual Irish Fest starting at noon on Saturday March 19. The festival will feature live Irish music, traditional Irish food, kids activities and, of course, beer. More information: 215-862-8300 or www.triumphbrewing.com.   03/11/11 >> go there
