It’s practically impossible to stick just one label on the multi-ethnic and multi-generational group Freshlyground. Their sound is a blend of poetry with folk, jazz, Afro-beat, and funk. Hailing from South Africa, they have gained worldwide attention for their unique sound that fuses so many different elements and instruments. You might remember them from their collaboration with Shakira on the anthem for 2010 World Cup, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” They will be live at New York’s S.O.B’s on July 6.
