Boubacar Traoré mixes rhythms from his native western Mali, the playful heaves and trembles of the harmonica and guitar of old times American blues, and a style of wistful and nostalgic singing that resonates traditional Arabic music. The songs in his 2011 release Mali Denhou feel both therapeutic and invigorating. Back in the 60s Traoré was titled Mali's Chuck Berry and celebrated for providing dance music for a generation and country who were enjoying freedom for the first time; in his current revival -after years of absence from the music scene- Traoré is bringing back the soulful and calming sounds of Mali blues that so many admirers missed to the Boston area on October 5th. 10/09/11 >> go there
