The Beloved Sacred Art & Music Festival will soon draw hundreds of people to the Tidewater area for a weekend of celebration, live music, worship and learning.
Now in its fourth year, the festival begins Thursday, Aug. 11, and continues through Aug. 15.
The idea for the festival came after organizer Elliot Rasenick traveled to India in 2001 to the largest spiritual festival in the world, attended by 70 million people. Rasenick was touched by the tens of millions of Indians who walked and surmounted extraordinary challenges to be at that one place.
Id heard this word pilgrimage before, but I really had no idea what it meant and how powerful it was for so many people to all be together sharing that experience of having worked really hard to get some place because they really felt like they were going to have something transform them there, he said.
