Fusing Blues music with Indian music has been tried before, but no one has done it quite as successfully as Doug Cox and Salil Bhatt (the son of V.M.Bhatt—who won a Grammy with Ry Cooder in 1992).

“20,000 miles ” was recorded In the famous Royal Studio in Memphis, TN, where Al Greene used to record. Joining Doug, Salil and Cassius are someamazing guests—Calvin Cooke, the founding father of sacred steel, gospel legends The Campbell Brothers, and Betty Soo, the Americana-inspired darlingof Austin’s singer songwriter scene.

“It shouldn’t sound good, and it doesn’t. It sounds great.” Lou Novacheck, Elmore

“Many cross-cultural experiments end up sounding like awkward hybrids….Slide to Freedom is a wonderful exception to that rule.” Rob Johnson, Hittin’ theNote

“I would be the first to admit that I know as much about Indian music as I do about flying the space shuttle. However, after listening toSlide to Freedom over the past few weeks, I can safely say that I want to hear more. Most blues fans should feel the same way. Slide to Freedom is anincredible journey into world music by a group of stellar musicians.” Graham Clarke, Blues Bytes 10/21/11 >> go there
